Rockland County Plow Drivers Attend Snow School

Rockland Daily Staff

Fifty Rockland County snow plow drivers attended an annual pre-winter refresher course on Tuesday, November 15, to guide them in best practices for covering 350 lane miles with 13 feet wide vehicles.

According to CBS New York, the annual sessions are scheduled to review safety protocols as well as snow removal procedures for the season ahead. Drivers are shown videos of hazards they could face while on the road, especially during a blinding snowstorm. Tips such as being prepared, staying awake, staying attentive, and paying attention to detail are part of the discussion.

New this year was a special focus on treating equipment with great care as the 3-6 month delay in getting replacement parts due to supply chain issues could interfere with being able to replace broken equipment.

When there is an approaching snowstorm, drivers are given a 45-minute response time and are told to come in prepared with a packed bag containing extra clothes and lunch.
