Rockland County Legislator Wieder Spearheads Resolution for Dangerous Spring Valley Sewer Backups

By M.C. Millman
After being contacted regarding an emergency sewer situation by Village of Spring Valley residents, Legislator Aron Wieder stepped up to the plate to do his utmost to resolve the serious situation for those suffering from countless sewer backups that were only worsening over time.
The problem of sewer backups causing the basement to flood with sewage was occurring in the neighborhood of King Terrace, Stanly, and Aslin Place, but it had reached an unprecedented level requiring intervention, which the legislator was able to provide.
After calling a meeting with Michael Saber, Executive Director Sewer Operations and Engineering Rockland County Sewer District No. 1, and a number of families in the neighborhood together with the legislator, the attendees hoped to find a solution for the untenable situation. Realizing the severity of the situation, the Rockland County Sewer District committed to some immediate short-term fixes along with planning for a long-term resolution to alleviate the ongoing problem.
“This was a quality-of-life situation which needed to be dealt with immediately,” Legislator Wieder shares with Rockland Daily exclusively. “More than that, it was creating an unhealthy environment, which I recognized immediately was putting an entire neighborhood in jeopardy. I appreciate that the Village of Spring Valley reached reached out to me when he did, and I was happy to be able to be the shaliach to helping towards a resolution of a very trying situation.”
One near-immediate resolution was the installation of a system to help resolve the problem in individual homes. Residents will be compensated for the installation. The sewer pipes in the area were also completely cleaned to facilitate further the resolution of the very serious and exasperating situation.
"The Village of Spring Valley truly appreciates the responsiveness of Legislator Wieder," Village of Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Yisroel Eisenbach shares with Rockland Daily, "for jumping into action and doing what's right for his constituents. Gratitude is also owed to the Rockland County Sewer District for agreeing to work towards a rapid resolution to the problem that has been plaguing the neighborhood for some time."
Residents are cautioned not to put anything into the system that is not flushable to prevent further incapacitation of our precarious sewer system.
