Rockland County Grand Jury Dismisses Murder Charges Against Medina

by M.C. Millman

A Rockland County Grand Jury voted to dismiss the murder charge against Javier Medina Jr., age twenty-one, from Stony Point, who was charged following a domestic confrontation involving the murder victim and the victim's relative.

On September 17, 2022, at around 11:34 p.m., the Stony Point Police Department responded to a report of a man shot at 101 Mott Farm Road in Tompkins Cove. The officers found Jason Colwell, age 47, dead inside the home with a gunshot wound to the chest. The officers found the gun at the scene, arrested Javier Medina, a resident, and charged him with Murder in the Second Degree. Medina remained in the county jail without bail for three days.

After a review of the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting death, which included witnesses, video surveillance, and downloads from several cell phones, the Grand Jury of Rockland County voted on Friday to dismiss the murder charge against Medina after a month-long session.
