Rockland Chesed Network Launches With a Splash

By M. C. Millman

On Sunday, June 19, the Neighbors Helping Neighbors BBQ took place at the Minisceongo Gold Course in Pomona. Thirty-three neighborhood representatives made it their business to ensure their neighborhoods were represented in showing support for the new organization.

Monday night, June 20 was the Women's Night Out, with even more neighborhood representatives committed to the success of the evening. Highlights of the high-end night out included Pizza Biza, Mixcraft drinks, Smootheez, and more.

Both events were created to draw the attention of Rockland County to the plans of the Rockland Chesed Network as well as to create awareness of the RCN's million-dollar-plus matched campaign taking place on June 22 and 23rd.

Assemblyman Mike Lawler attended the men's evening to show support for this major initiative.

The Rockland Chesed Network has big plans for encompassing the plethora of chesed that Rockland needs to see covered on so many fronts. The new umbrella organization generated from Tomche Shabbos launched the first in a series of events to reflect just how big the organization's plans are.

Founded 30 years ago, Tomche Shabbos of Rockland began by delivering food boxes to struggling families. As the community grew, so did the need for more comprehensive support. Over the years, Tomche Shabbos began paying utility bills and offering emergency financial assistance thinking beyond crises to long-term solutions with job placement and mental health resources.

Tomche Shabbos has always existed to serve the Monsey community–and presently, as schools and shuls are scrambling to keep pace with community needs, that means taking an important step to unify the many services attributed to Tomche Shabbos. This includes Partners in Parnosoh, Bobbie's Place, and many others that will now be united under one name  - Rockland Chesed Network (RCN).

"What was amazing about both of these events," says Avi Goldstein, Tomche Shabbos Director of Development, "is how many young people are involved, creating incredible energy and a new dynamic for this new undertaking. Monsey is exploding, and RCN is ready to launch to meet the needs and address this growth's challenges."
