Report of Man With an Ax at CVS Declared a Non-Event by Ramapo Police Department

Rockland Daily Staff

Rockland Daily was the first to report on its status that an individual carrying an ax had entered the CVS on Grandview Avenue in New Hempstead.

The Ramapo Police Department arrived quickly on the scene and was able to ascertain that the individual carrying the ax into the store was simply a hiker who was not behaving in a threatening manner. The ax, along with the individual's backpack, were left on the ground the entire time he shopped.

Ramapo Police reported that they checked the individual out and confirmed that the ax was safely secured and that the public was never in danger.

The police transported the man to the train station after he finished his shopping to help him continue his journey.

We thank the Ramapo Police Department for their rapid response to a situation that fortunately turned out to be non-life threatening.
