Recalls of Over 300 Thousand Teslas Due to Full Self-Driving Safety Concerns

Tesla issued a recall of its Full Self-Driving software, an advanced driver-assistance system after the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration(NHTSA) said the software might cause crashes at intersections.

s were discovered during NHTSA's engineering analysis and testing of the system. Some complaints include traveling straight through an intersection while in a turn-only lane, entering a stop sign–controlled intersection without coming to a complete stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a steady yellow traffic signal without due caution. Additionally, the NHTSA said in certain situations, Tesla's Autosteer on City Streets features led to an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety based on insufficient adherence to traffic safety laws.

The recall was issued for some 2016–2023 Model S, Model X; 2017–2023 Model 3; and 2020–2023 Model Y vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD Beta) software or those pending installation. The recall affected 362,758 Teslas and was posted on the NHTSA's website.

To correct the problem, Tesla has released a free over-the-air software update.
