Ramapo Police Department Steps Up Traffic Safety Enforcement this Week

To ensure that every Rockland County teen learns how to drive safely to preserve their own lives and the lives of others, this week, the Ramapo Police Department will be participating in statewide efforts to increase patrols near high schools and step up its enforcement of traffic law violations.

Police officers statewide are kicking off their week-long statewide traffic-safety campaign on Monday by focusing today on drivers who speed in school zones. 

Tomorrow, police officers will be ensuring that New York drivers and passengers are wearing seatbelts and using car seats and boosters for young children.

On Wednesday, police will focus on ticketing distracted drivers who talk on phones and/or text while at the wheel.

On Thursday, police officers will ensure that drivers come to complete stops at stop signs and red lights, and on Friday police will crack down underage drivers who drive while impaired by alcohol and other drugs.

New York police officers are increasing their enforcement of traffic violations as part of their participation in the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee “No Empty Chair” campaign, which seeks to ensure that no family, G-d-forbid, loses a child to a careless driving.

In addition to what some might call “a week-long ticket blitz,” state and local law enforcement agencies that have School Resource Officers and other police presences in schools are encouraged to conduct safe-driving outreach campaigns to better educate teens on the potential violations of the Graduated Licensing Law, which enforces safe and controlled driving.
