Prison Time for Airmont's Former Deputy Mayor

Mindy Cohn

Brian Downey, Airmont's former deputy mayor, was sentenced last week for possessing an unregistered firearm.

Back in February this year, Downey pleaded guilty to a federal charge of illegally possessing an unregistered firearm obtained by mail in 2021. This forced him to resign from the Board of Trustees. Moshe Menachem Friedman was appointed as Airmont's new Village Trustee on February 16 to take Downey's place, as reported by Rockland Daily here.

Downey was sentenced to eight months in prison and a $7,500 fine and ordered by federal Judge Cathy Seibel to surrender to prison authorities on January 17.

The former trustee still faces sentencing on November 14 in Rockland County Court on six separate counts of weapons possession.
