Tomche Shabbos, one of Rockland’s most legendary institutions–nearing close to thirty-five years of selfless service to the community’s most needy–held their annual dinner this past Sunday, January 9, at the Atrium Plaza.
The dinner was coined “Beyond the Box,” highlighting the work of Tomche Shabbos even beyond their food boxes which have brought relief to tens of thousands of needy families of Rockland County.
“We try to always ask ourselves, how can we fundamentally help this family? What can we do to fundamentally put them on a different track? And you realize while a box of food at the door is a beautiful thing, and I guess it's what we are known for best, we need to think beyond the box,” said Alan Rosenstock, president of the organization.
This year’s dinner paid tribute to the dedicated drivers who volunteer their time each and every week. It honored Mr. Mel Heching, Volunteer of the Year, Mr. and Mrs. Sruly Dahan.
Mrs. Shua Heber, dinner chairman, noted the incredible involvement of the young laymen in this organization in recent years–a hopeful sign that this organization will continue to be a vital force in alleviating the plight of thousands of families in need in the Rockland County area.
