Palisades Interstate Parkway Undergoes Tree Clearing

By M. C. Millman

More aggressive tree clearing activity is taking place on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The work began on Tuesday, June 28, and is linked to a freak accident on Sunday, June 19, when a tree fell on a car driven by Anthony Apostolico, Rockland Deli owner from Orange County.

The tree pruning work is concentrated between Exit 15, Gate Hill Road, to Exit 16, Lake Welch Drive, along the northbound Palisades Interstate Park and might cause traffic to accumulate in the area. Orange markers and wood piles can be seen in the left median and along the right side of the Parkway.

According to New York State Department of Transportation spokesperson Heather Pillsworth, "New York State Department of Transportation maintenance crews routinely patrol state highways for hazardous trees and, where necessary, identify them for removal.”
