Orange & Rockland Prepares to Meet Tropical Storm

Rockland Daily Staff

Orange & Rockland is ramping up its company-wide emergency response group to repair possible storm damage and restore electric service outages as needed for Tropical Storm Nicole's expected arrival on Friday night.

Heavy rains and strong winds are expected to hit the Rockland County area Friday night into Saturday morning.

O&R tree removal experts, customer service operations, and other O&R emergency response effort teams will be activated early Friday evening. This includes mutual aid overhead line and tree contractors increasing O&R's line workforce to more than three times its regular size.

O&R warns the public not to touch or approach any downed wires as they might be energized and life-threatening. If you see a downed line, call O&R immediately at 1-877-434-4100 and then call the local police to divert traffic from the downed wire's location until an O&R crew arrives.

Charge phones and pack an emergency kit to have on hand, just in case.

Should there be a power outage, don't assume that O&R automatically knows about it. Report an outage here, or on the O&R mobile app available from the Apple Store or Google Play. Additionally, you can text "OUT" to 69678 (myORU) or call 1-877-434-4100.

To find the latest information on power outages, please view O&R's Outage Map.
