Opinion: An Important Message for the East Ramapo Community!

An important opportunity is presenting itself to the East Ramapo community next Tuesday!

The East Ramapo School District collects yearly school tax from the residents within the district to fund public school expenses and only very few private school expenses.

Each year the school district attempts to increase its budget to accommodate more expenses and when they are successful, the already high taxes further increase.

However, a proposed increase needs to be voted on and accepted by the public.

The School District sets up a voting day in May and another one in June if the budget does not get approval on the first try.

That gives a chance to all East Ramapo residents who want to veto the increase and save some hard-earned money to have a say.

In year 2018, the anti-increase residents succeeded for the first time to reject the increase both in May and June.

Since the Jewish community does not benefit much from the budget, a majority of the community would like for the increase to be vetoed once again.

This year’s voting day falls out on the 17th of May.

Anyone can go to their local voting site from 7 am to 10 pm and have a say on the matter.
