NYS Thruway Authority Board Set to Vote on Toll Hikes for Roads and Bridges on Monday

NYS Thruway Authority Board Set to Vote on Toll Hikes for Roads and Bridges on Monday

On Monday, December 5, the New York State Thruway Authority Board will vote on whether to proceed with toll hikes on road and bridge tolls.

If approved, the hikes will take effect in January 2024.

Residents are still able to submit comments prior to the webinar meeting. The comments will be read at the board meeting and should be sent here.

County Executive Ed Day submitted a statement to the board in which he expressed his adamant opposition to toll increases, underscoring families are already struggling with record-breaking inflation and skyrocketing gas prices. Other Rockland electeds have done the same, including Senator Reichlin-Melnick, who says the MTA and the NYMTC are creating a paradox that will do nothing more than create a new tax on Rockland County commuters.

"The point of congestion pricing is to incentivize people to consider taking public transit," the senator said, "But if we put the cart before the horse without first creating that public transit option, congestion pricing will be a new tax on Rockland commuters, and it will not reduce the number of car trips that people take - because there are just not better options."

There will also be two public comment periods at the start and end of the meeting. More details on the comment periods can be found here.
