Nyack Renames Street to Honor Officers Gunned Down During Brinks Robbery

On Friday, the annual memorial ceremony marking the forty-second anniversary of Rockland's deadly Brinks tragedy took place as elected officials gathered with community leaders, local police personnel, and residents at the corner of Route 59 and Mountainview Avenue in Nyack.

As a prelude to the day, attendees gathered two hours before the memorial ceremony at the Nyack Village Hall for the official unveiling of P.O. Brown & Sgt. O’Grady Street, previously Lydecker Street. The street was named after the two officers who died during the infamous Brinks Robbery - Sergeant Edward O'Grady and Officer Waverly "Chipper" Brown.

The memorial honored the two Nyack police officers and the Brinks armed guard who were gunned down in 1981 by domestic terrorists.
