NY's New Automated Speeding Ticket Radar Program Includes Hudson Valley

by Mindy Cohn

The Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement (AWZSE) program launched on New York roadways last Monday, two years and two months after becoming law in September 2021.

The work-zone speed units were put into operation on I-84 in the Hudson Valley, among other roadways found here.

The new five-year program will send automated speeding tickets to drivers on monitored roads.

It is a joint effort by the State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and Thruway Authority (NYSTA with the intended goal of furthering efforts to slow motorists down in work zones.

A first violation will result in a $50 fine. A second violation will be fined $75 if it is within an 18-month period of the first violation. Further violations will receive a $100 fine if within an 18-month period of the first violation. Points will not be assessed against the drivers license for any Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement Violations.
