Newly Released Report Shows Violent Crime Down Across NY

According to a newly released report reflecting the first six months of 2023, violent crime was down across New York compared to last year. 

Data on crime trends across New York was culled for the report from police and sheriff offices in 57 counties. The results showed a six-percent drop in violent crime outside New York City during the first half of 2023 compared to the first six months of 2022. 

The statistics outside of New York City also demonstrated that murders were down 27 percent. Robberies declined by five percent, and aggravated assaults decreased by four percent. Violent crimes involving guns have had 397 fewer victims over the same period last year.

As far as the data for New York City, five out of the seven serious crime categories tracked by the NYPD have dropped compared to the same time last year.

Specifically, murders and burglaries saw a 10 percent drop in New York City, while shooting incidents dropped 26 percent, leaving 391 fewer people injured from gunfire.
