New York State Police Unveil New Patrol Car Design

By Y.M. Lowy
The New York State Police are updating the look of their patrol cars. Starting in 2025, they will go from dark blue with yellow stripes to a gray body with gold lines. This new design pays tribute to the agency’s cars of the early 1950s.
Technical Sergeant Jack Keller explained that the change, initiated by the State Police superintendent, aligns with the troopers’ iconic gray uniforms, symbolizing their neutrality. The change will also save the department money because the old dark blue color was expensive to order costing up to $700 per vehicle.
Currently, only one car features the new design, but all newly purchased vehicles will adopt the updated look, and there are no plans to repaint existing fleet cars.
