New Push to Restore Tappan Zee Bridge to Former Glory of Original Name

New Push to Restore Tappan Zee Bridge to Former Glory of Original Name

by Rockland Daily Staff

Hudson Valley Democrat State Senator James Skoufis is adding his push to the three-year-old push to return the Tappan Zee Bridge to its original name.

"Everyone in the Hudson Valley still calls the bridge the Tappan Zee for a reason," tweets Zach Williams from the New York Post.

The name change would take effect as soon as the bill passes the state Senate and Assembly after getting signed into law by the governor, which Skoufis hopes to see become a reality by June.

Skoufi is the first Democrat in the state Senate to offer his support of the bill.

"Glad to see @JamesSkoufis and John McGowan have picked up the mantle in the state legislature to rename the Tappan Zee Bridge," Congressman Mike Lawler tweeted. "When I met with the Governor two weeks ago, I encouraged her to do just that."
