National Teen Driver Safety Week Is Underway
M.C. Millman
Sunday, October 16 through Saturday, October 22, is National Teen Driver Safety Week created to further the awareness that motor vehicle-related accidents are among the leading causes of death for teenagers in the U.S.
According to the CDC, the risk of motor vehicle accidents is higher among teens aged 16–19 than among any other age group.
During National Teen Driver Safety Week, it is suggested that parents take the time to have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel. These rules address the greatest dangers for teen drivers, which include alcohol, inconsistent or no seat belt use, distracted and drowsy driving, speeding, and the number of passengers.
Teen Driver Safety Week means making teens aware of the small things they can do to reduce the risk of being in an accident. Other noteworthy topics include being familiar with the laws of the road and practicing safe driving habits.
