Misaskim Publishes Birchas Ha’ilonos List For New York Neighborhoods

by YS Gold

It is the beautiful time of year, with spring in the air, when we watch the trees and plants sprouting—seemingly overnight—signaling a new season of warmth and sunshine.

It is also the time—from the beginning of Chodesh Nissan—that we make the bracha when seeing the sprouts on fruit trees.

And although it may not seem like it in some areas of our more metropolitan neighborhoods, there are quite a few fruit trees of all varieties in many private yards whose owners are glad to have the public recite the bracha there.

Like every year, the Misaskim organization publishes a list of precise locations to find fruit trees in their neighborhood.

The notice notes that women are also obligated to make the bracha, which can be recited at night if the sprout can be clearly seen.
