Lifeguard Saves Near Drowning Victim

Lifeguard Saves Near Drowning Victim

By M. C. Millman

An unconscious child was pulled out of a pool in Wesley Hills on Thursday evening, July 14. B’chasdei Hashem, the near-drowning victim, was resuscitated by a lifeguard who performed CPR. He was brought to Westchester Medical Center by Hatzoloh where he is reported to be in stable condition. This is the second such incident in Wesley Hills this week.

Past community responses to prevent such tragic events have been for those with backyard pools to arrange for group pool safety and emergency measure instruction with a qualified pool safety instructor.

Another safety measure, offered by  Hatzoloh of Rockland County, is to prominently place a sign near the pool with Hatzoloh’s number on it. The signs, provided at no charge to Rockland homeowners, have a blank line to fill in the home address of the pool in case one is a guest on site. This makes all the necessary information available in case of an emergency. The signs can be picked up locally in Monsey after placing a request to poolsigns@hatzolohEMS.org.
