James Greco, who Killed a Spring Valley Man While Driving Under the Influence, Pleads Guilty

By Yehudit Garmaise

James Greco, 52, of New Jersey, will likely serve between five and six years in a New York state prison after he pled guilty on Wednesday for the charge of second-degree manslaughter, said Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan who entered the guilty plea.

On May 21, 2021, Greco, who will be sentenced on Sept. 8, killed one man from Spring Valley and injured two others, while driving under the influence on Route 42 in Fallsburg.

While driving a pickup truck after taking oxycodone and fentanyl, Grego crossed Route 42’s double yellow line and collided with a van: killing driver Jose Daniel Roldan-Roldan, 29, who was taken by emergency service workers to Garnet Catskills Medical Center in Harris, where he was pronounced dead.

Greco, who at the time of the crash was treated for his injuries at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, was indicted on the felony in December 2021.

"This victim, Jose Daniel Roldan-Roldan, was a hardworking man on his way to a job, when the defendant's decision to take pills and drive stole Jose from his loved ones," Galligan said. "This case demonstrates that statutes pertaining to vehicular deaths in our state are inadequate to address the losses suffered by innocent people at the hands of those who improperly operate motor vehicles."
