High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash, Drug-Related Arrests, and Forty-Eight Tickets

by M. C. Millman

Last night around 2 a.m., state police were involved in a high-speed chase for 23 miles of up to 100 mph that ended in a crash and the arrest of two men, subsequently charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The chase began in Rockland County on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, where troopers noticed a 2021 Nissan Altima going north on the parkway while violating traffic laws.

The car was pulled over at Exit 12, but when an officer approached the vehicle, it took off north. The Altima exited the Palisades and onto the New York State Thruway with the troopers in hot pursuit. The chase continued north until exit 16 and then continued to Route 17 before exiting at the 131 off-ramps. At that point, the driver lost control of the car and struck a guard rail at Nininger Road and Route 105 in Monroe.

The car's two occupants, Marcus Manigault, age 37, of New York City, and passenger Attley Samuel, age 29, of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, suffered minor injuries, which Woodbury EMS treated. Both were taken into custody and transported to Orange County jail pending arraignment.

The pair was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell: and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. The driver was also charged with fleeing from a police officer in a car and obstruction of governmental administration. He received 48 tickets for his trouble.
