Hazy Skies Today in Rockland From Canadian Wildfires

Today's beautiful weather has an unusual twist - hazy conditions from Canadian wildfires.
Smoke from wildfires in Alberta, Canada, can be seen thousands of miles from the source and has reached major cities in the eastern United States. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NAOO) GOES-EAST weather satellite easily saw the smoke from space.
According to Accuweather, the annual wildfire season and resulting wildfire smoke are more common in the late summer and early fall, "but the smoke has made an early appearance this year due to a surge in fire activity in Alberta over the past week."
Thankfully, the smoke in Rockland is too high in the atmosphere to have much impact on air quality conditions.
AccuWeather pointed out that smoke can contribute to vivid sunrises and sunsets, so be on the lookout later this evening to see the potentially colorful effects in the sky from the wildfires.
