Haverstraw Public Library Becomes a Sustainable Library

Rockland Daily Staff

Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library (HKDPL) in Garnerville is now certified as a Sustainable Library through the Sustainable Library Certification Program.

The initiative, which is exclusively for libraries, provides a step-by-step process to infuse sustainable decision-making into a library’s policies, procedures, and actions.

The HKDPL staff at the main library and Village branch worked to reduce energy, provide innovative programming, and forge partnerships with other organizations. The library provides regular programming to encourage sustainable actions.

Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library is among the first libraries to participate in the Sustainable Libraries Certification Program, the first of its kind in the world. Its staff will serve as a mentor for other libraries pursuing similar certifications.

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative has nearly sixty libraries currently enrolled in the Sustainable Libraries Certification Program. Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library is the eleventh library to be certified through this program.
