Greenwood Lake Fire Update

Greenwood Lake Fire Update

By Rockland Daily Staff

As of this morning the ongoing wildfire at Jennings Creek by Greenwood Lake hasn't improved much.

The firefighters and volunteer crews led by NYS  Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers worked throughout the night and were able to keep the fire contained within the fire line. There is the possibility of firefighters conducting burnout operations today, which could lead to more visible smoke.

Yesterday, the New York State Police and New York Army National Guard Helicopters dropped 177 buckets of water on the fire, and 4 helicopters will be back in the air today. Additional support and resources continues to arrive from throughout New York State, including an engine and crew that were deployed from Monsey FD.

Governor Hochul has announced a statewide burn ban that prohibits any outdoor burning activities, and the red flag warning from yesterday is back in effect in several areas until 6pm tonight.
