Generac Recalls 64,000 Portable Generators

by Mindy Cohn
Generators are going to become a little harder to come by this hurricane season as 64,000 portable generators are being recalled by Generac due to their risk of causing fires and burns.
Generac received twenty-seven reports of the generators overheating and pressurizing or expelling fuel when open according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Three of those incidents resulted in severe burn injuries. The recalled models were sold at major home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and online from April 2011 through June 2023.
The recall is for Generac's portable generators type GP15000E, with model numbers G0057341, G0057342, 005734R1, and 005734R2, and also type GP17500E, with model numbers G0057351, G0057352, 005735R1, and 005735R2.
Generac and the unit type are printed on both sides of the tank and on the control panel of each generator. The model number is printed on a label located on the heat shield between the generator's engine and the alternator.
Consumers can visit the company's website here and click on “Important Recall Information” at the top of the page for more information or call 888-391-0503 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
