Gas Prices at All-Year High for 2023 -Just in Time for Labor Day's Heavy Traffic

The average price for gas in New York State has gone up  24 cents a gallon from a month ago, with the national average at $3.88 this week and an annual average of $3.55, making this week the most expensive week to buy gas of 2023.

Costco in Nanuet is selling gas for $3.55 as of today, far cheaper than the most expensive state to buy gas, which is California at $5.18. Georgia has the lowest average gas price at $2.83 this week.

Despite the highest gas prices of the year coming out across the U.S., a  survey of AAA Northeast members reflected that more than 85 percent of Labor Day travelers plan to drive to their destinations, with the largest percentage reporting that they are planning trips that are an average of 50 and 200 miles away.

As far as the resulting traffic, A.A. Northeast says that Thursday, August 31, will most likely be the busiest travel time on the roads, while Friday, September 1, will also see heavier traffic from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On the bright side, at least gas is 30 cents lower than it was last year at this time.
