Federal agents arrested four Philadelphia members of the UPS Gang after a longwinded burglary spree that began in January 2021 and included fifty-five UPS warehouses across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
A minimum of three other accomplices are still on the loose. The gang is blamed for stealing an estimated $1.6 million in electronic merchandise including the UPS warehouse on Route 59 in Clarkstown, which had $10,200 worth of electronics stolen from its facility on August 7, 2022.
Since the burglaries began nearly three years ago, all four of the gang members were arrested at one time or another and then released without being charged for the burglaries.
The gang conducted most of the theft late Saturday into Sunday morning, entering through the loading bay by breaking a window or forcing a door open. Upon gaining access, the thieves locate packages with the “lithium-ion battery” warnings printed on the box. This guaranteed electronics would be inside the packages.
According to Homeland Security, the gang used social media group chats and direct messaging to coordinate the thefts and shared photos of the stolen merchandise on social media as well.
The four gang members are Aboudramane Karamoko, 20, Shamaire Brown, 19, Sekou Fofanah, 20, and Quamaire Brown, 19. All four have been detained and will remain jailed through initial appearances in Philadelphia federal court.
