Follow Along for Updates: Historic Two-Day Skver Hachnasas Sefer Torah

By Y.M. Lowy
Tonight marks the beginning of the two-day historic Skver Hachnasas Sefer Torah celebrations.
Preparations are in full swing, with emergency and security teams from heimish neighborhoods across New York heading to New Square to begin preparing for the crowds. To accommodate overseas guests, including hundreds from Israel, Yiddish street signs have been placed around the Skver Shtetl, and a new cellphone tower was installed to ensure service for the influx of visitors. This morning, the custom-built Hachnasas Sefer Torah truck traveled along the planned route for tomorrow’s parade, preparing for tonight’s celebrations.
The Sefer Torah has been in progress since Elul of 2017. Tonight’s Kesivas Torah event will mark the completion of its writing, with the Skvere Rebbe adding the final words, followed by joyous dancing.
Tomorrow is a historic day, with the parade set to begin at 1:30 PM. Special trucks will be featured, and all members of the community—men, women, and children—will take part in separate sections, having accepted their own Kabbalah. Skvere Chassidim have made personal Kabbalas for seven years in areas like tznius, technology use, and other areas of Yiddishkeit, strengthening their bond with the Sefer Torah.
The Sefer Torah will then be brought into the new, enormous shul, followed by a festive Seuda in the evening.
