ERCSD Joins Six Other Rockland School Districts Installing School Bus Cameras for Ticketing and Safety

by M.C. Millman
The East Ramapo Central School District voted last night to be the seventh school district in Rockland to opt-in for the new Rockland County School Bus Safety program announced near the end of the 2022-2023 school year, as reported by Rockland Daily here.
The other six districts that have opted in include Pearl River UFSD, Nanuet UFSD, North Rockland CSD, Clarkstown CSD, Suffern CSD, and Nyack UFSD.
"We are happy and proud to approve this resolution that will increase the safety of the students in our district." Shimmy Rose, ERCSD Board President, shares exclusively with Rockland Daily, "We weren't able to announce an exact date of installation at last night's ERCSD board meeting, as the installation depends on the vendor's availability, but the process of getting it done will start immediately."
Every day in New York State, an estimated 50,000 drivers illegally pass stopped school buses, putting the lives and safety of children at risk. To make roads safer for children, the County of Rockland has partnered with BusPatrol to launch a violator-funded business model allowing districts to equip school buses with cameras on the bus stop-arms at no cost.
South Orangetown and BOCES have yet to opt in to the program.
