Driver Who Caused the Chesed 24/7 Van Rollover Charged With Driving Under the Influence

The driver of the car that ran into the Chesed 24/7 van on Motzei Shabbos has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

A Chesed 24/7 volunteer and a service unit for Hatzolah was the first on the scene late on June 25 when he saw the overturned van on the side of the road.

The accident happened when the Chesed 24/7 van was making a left from Fastov Avenue onto Route 45 when a car came from New Hempstead Road and hit the van, causing it to roll over.

A Chesed 24/7 representative told Rockland Daily that the driver of their van is the safest driver you can find. He made a full stop before making his left turn, but the other driver, who did not have his headlights on and was driving at high speed, wasn’t seen until it was too late.

The Chesed 24/7 van driver and one of the van’s passengers were able to climb out of the van through a back window that had shattered during the accident. Hatzolah treated both at the scene.

The car’s driver was extricated from his vehicle by the Hillcrest Fire Department and was taken to Nyack hospital by Spring Hill EMS. He was accompanied by a Ramapo police officer who went along with the ambulance to continue the investigation into the accident.
