The Town of Clarkstown is proposing a six percent tax hike for its new  2023 school tax budget.

The school budget vote will take place on Tuesday, May 16. It will include the proposed $244,459,621 million school budget, two seats for the  Clarkstown Board of Education, and a library budget vote. The budget is expected to raise the tax levy by 2 percent for the second year in a row, which is at the State's tax cap.

Additionally, residents will be voting for two seats up for election on the Clarkstown Board of Education. Incumbent trustees David Gosman and Zizette Deutsche are seeking re-election, while Alana Rao, who ran last year on a platform that opposed diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, is running as well.

A budget hearing on the proposed $244 million school tax is scheduled for May 4.
