Chaverim Rocks!
By M. C. Millman
When there is no one else to help, Chaverim is a phone call away.
This was clear to Tirtza and Nechama, two women hiking the Giant Stairs hike in the Palisades Interstate Park this July 4th. While scrambling over one of the many boulders, Nechama’s phone slipped from her pocket, landing deep in a crevice. Many strangers stopped to attempt to help but with no success.
Realizing that they were between a rock and a hard place, the pair decided to call Chaverim of Rockland. Yoseph Levin, a Chaverim volunteer, arrived in record time, despite the more than two-mile hike from the parking lot. He ingeniously figured out how to retrieve the phone and trekked another two-plus miles back to his car after a job well done.
