Car Break-In on Twin Avenue Leads to Arrest

by Chana Weinman

After being called to the scene on Twin Avenue last night for an individual attempting to break into the cars on the street, Chaverim of Rockland volunteers assisted in arresting the would-be thief due to a previous warrant issued by Clarkstown.

The saga started when a Chaverim dispatcher received a call regarding a man trying the handles of car after car on Twin Avenue in Spring Valley. in an apparent attempt to break in.  Chaverim followed the individual for about half an hour before losing him.

Within the hour, Chaverim was called to Twin Avenue again as the individual they had been trailing had finally found an unlocked car and had climbed inside.  The trespasser was still there when Chaverim arrived and was recognized as a resident of the infamous 80 Twin Avenue long-time trouble spot, as reported on numerous times previously by Rockland Daily, including here.

As he hadn't actually stolen anything at this point, police could not arrest him upon arrival until they realized that the trespasser had an outstanding warrant from Clarkstown, which allowed them to complete an area.

"Chaverim has been working with neighbors to get the perp off the streets for some time now," Chaveirim shares with Rockland Daily, "as he just continues to steal and cause issues with the neighbors. A month or two can go by with no issues, but then he's right back to stealing like before. Nothing helps, so Chaverim is trying to see what can be done for this issue."
