Boy Rescued from Suzanne Lake After Falling Through Ice

By M.C. Millman

A boy became trapped under the ice he fell through after chasing a ball onto Suzanne Lake after 5:00 this evening.

According to Hamodia, the two boys who were playing ball believed the lake was frozen solid enough to retrieve their ball from the frozen surface of the lake. But despite the freezing weekend, temperatures had gone up during the day, and the ice broke under them.

One of the boys was able to escape the clutches of the lake, but the other boy could not get out until he was rescued. Hatzoloh of Rockland, Chaverim of Rockland, Chavivim, the Ramapo Police Department, and the Monsey Fire Department were all at the scene. A passing school bus driver was also involved in the rescue, which utilized a ladder and ropes during the rescue.

The boy was pulled from the lake and was conscious immediately after his rescue. Although he has been hospitalized, he is conscious and fully alert.
