A festive and joyous feeling permeated the Bobover kehillah in Monsey Tuesday evening, as they were graced by the presence of the Bobover Ruv, shlit”a, and a large number of chassidim from throughout New York who came to celebrate the formal appointment of his son-in-law, Rav Chaim Duvid Wachsman, as dayan of the kehillah.
The event coincided with a Chanukas habayis event for a magnificent building for the Bobover shul.
R’ Avrohom Moshe Schaya, one of the heads of the kehillah, spoke about the milestone that they are experiencing with this appointment, and noted how, less than 24 hours after his appointment by the Ruv last week, the dayan was already at work assisting one of the members of the kehillah in a difficult personal matter.
The new dayan, Rav Chaim Duvid, who is known as a talmid chochom and eved Hashem spoke next, expressing his fervent hope for the growth of the kehillah, and together as a community.
A hush fell over the large crowd as the Ruv spoke first about the importance of the kehillah’s acceptance of a leader and guide who will be with them on a daily basis. “A community without a dayan is like a person without a head,” he said.
He greatly lauded the caliber of the dayan, noting that he had already attained multiple semichos from Gedolim in America and Eretz Yisroel, more than a decade ago. In addition, he has been assisting yungeleit with the process of attaining semicha.
The chassidim from the Monsey kehillah filed by to wish mazel tov to the new dayan, and to accept his leadership with a sense of joy and optimism for a bright future for this growing community.
