A potentially dangerous airbag risk has BMW advising owners of 90,000 vehicles built between 2000 and 2006 not to drive them.

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the recall on Thursday. Vehicles impacted are those under recall for a defective Takata airbag.

According to the NHTSA, the risk for vehicle occupants is dire, and the vehicles have "an extremely high probability of failing during a crash."

The NHTSA advises that if you own one of these vehicles and still have an open Takata airbag recall, wait to drive it until this urgent, lifesaving recall has been completed. Replacement parts are available now for free for this recall. Check your vehicle for recalls here https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Models involved in this recall include 2000-2006 BMW 3 Series (E46), including M3, 2000-2003 5 Series (E39), including M5, and 2000-2004 X5s (E53) equipped with certain driver's front airbag inflators manufactured by Takata.
