Blizzard Leaves Monsey Couple Stranded in Hotel Without Supplies for Infant

M.C. Millman

A couple with their three-month-old son got caught during the Upstate New York blizzard after their car got stuck in a snowdrift while heading home to Monsey.

Matis Glenn from Hamodia reported that the family was on their way home on Sunday afternoon after spending Shabbos near Niagra Falls. They used Waze navigation, which directed them to take side streets. Their car got stuck on Scotland Road in Newstead, New York.

Although they called 9-1-1, due to the blizzard's intensity, the police were busy responding to numerous calls from people in distress and left the family in their car for three hours. Out of desperation, they called Chaverim of Rockland, who intervened on their behalf, stressing the emergency needs of an infant out in the dangerous cold. Thirty minutes later, state troopers came to rescue them.

Police brought the family to a nearby hotel in Buffalo. Unfortunately, the family was left without food for themselves or the baby or other essential supplies. Theycould not leave the hotel to purchase supplies as the roads remained closed due to extreme weather conditions and excess snow.

This morning, Rockland Chaverim and Rabbi Duddy Farkash of Chabad of Olympia in Monsey located a prominent Jewish doctor in Buffalo who reached the family with critical supplies.

The family remains in the hotel until the roads are clear enough to head home.
