Bear Mountain State Park Reopens

M.C. Millman

Bear Mountain State Park reopened partially yesterday as it is gradually recovering from last month's torrential downpours and flooding.

The main field, picnic area, and the walkway around Hessian Lake are now open. The Bear Mountain Carousel and Hessian Lake Paddle Boat concession are scheduled to reopen this weekend. The popular zoo is still closed.

While the public restrooms are open, there is still a boil water advisory, so the park will continue to provide drinking water from a portable tanker near the carousel until the alert lifts. Visitors to the park are invited to bring reusable water bottles to fill up at the tanker.

As of now, access to Bear Mountain is currently available only through its main entrance off Route 9W near the Bear Mountain Bridge.
