BDE: Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash in New Hempstead on Friday, Levaya Tomorrow Morning

A tragic accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at the intersection of New Hempstead Road and Route 45 in New Hempstead when a landscaping truck T-boned a Toyota with two occupants.

According to an eyewitness, the light on New Hempstead Road was red for far longer than usual. It reached the point that cars were going through the red one at a time. When the Toyota drove through, it was going so slowly that the landscaping truck, which only saw that it had a green light, plowed into the car setting off the tragedy. 

Hatzalah was called to the scene, but tragically, the accident proved fatal to Mrs. Lillian Weinberger. 83, who died from her injuries shortly thereafter. Her husband, Richard, was also in the car but suffered only minor injuries. The landscaping truck driver was unhurt.

Richard is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Wesley Hills, where he served as chairman for many years.

The levaya will take place Tuesday morning, June 14, at Hellman's Funeral Home.
