We are saddened to inform you of the petirah of Reb Yoel Goldberger, z”l, of the Satmar kehillah in Monsey. He was 76 years of age.

He was born in Europe immediately following the war to his parents, Reb Moshe and Alta Dina Goldberger, Holocaust survivors from Hungary. From there, the family went to Toronto.

Sadly, his mother passed away when he was very young, and then they moved to Williamsburg. He learned in the Nitra yeshiva. He spent his youth in the Williamsburg in the glow of the Satmar Rebbe, zt”l. He would travel from Mt. Kisko on Motzei Shabbos just so he could be at the legendary shalosh seudos of the Satmer Rebbe.

He made the move to Monsey in the early days of the establishment of the Monsey community, in the 1960’s. He became known for his chessed: Generations of Monsey residents will recall him stopping to give them rides as they stood at the side of the road. They remember all the different jalopies that he drove... because it would always be him at the wheel, stopping to help a Yid.

He worked on 47th Street in Manhattan, but his heart and mind were preoccupied with Torah, tefillah, chessed, and avodas Hashem.

Reb Yoel leaves behind a beautiful family, in America and London.

The levaya will take place at the Satmar Beis Medrash of Monsey, 1 Monsey Boulevard, at 3:00 this afternoon, with kevurah in Kiryas Yoel.
