BDE: Rav Moshe Unger, z”l

Yitzy Fried
The Skverer chassidus was shocked and saddened to learn of
the petirah of Rav Moshe Unger, z”l, a distinguished chossid and son of the
Skverer dayan. He was 76 years of age and had suffered a heart attack
following davening on Friday night.
The niftar was the son of the Skverer Dayan, Rav Zalman
Unger, zt”l, and spent most of his life in the Skverer Shtetl. He was known for
his deep yiras Shomayim and chassidishkeit.
He was a tremendous repository of traditions from old
chassidim, and many minhagim and stories of past generations were passed down
through his meticulous gathering of information and anecdotes from old
chassidim with whom he spent much time.
The influences of his youth were etched on him for life, and
throughout the chassidus he was known for his ehrlichkeit and fire in
Yiddishkeit.
Rav Moshe worked as a Sofer Stam, and he had the tremendous
zechus of providing tefillin and mezuzos for the Skverer Rebbe and his family,
as well as so many others in the shtetl—an attestation to his caliber and the
esteem in which he was held by the Rebbe.
He attended davening this past Friday night and passed by
the Rebbe following davening to wish him a good Shabbos. This would be their
farewell. A short time later, he felt unwell, and despite the intense efforts of
Hatzolah, he returned his soul to its Maker.
The levaya will take place this evening in New Square.
Yehi zichro Baruch.
