Authorities Enforcing Unlicensed Fishing in New York Lakes

YS Gold

Police have recently been ticketing New Yorkers for laws that have not been enforced in many years.

According to askonim, police are issuing tickets to those fishing in New York lakes and other bodies of water without a license.

These tickets can reach up to $250.

The law requires anyone above the age of 16 to have a license to fish.

Anyone fishing in New York State (with a few exceptions) must obtain a fishing license before fishing. Fishing licenses can be purchased for the entire year, a week, or just a day.

Licenses are available to New York State residents as well as out-of-state residents. Upon purchase of a fishing license, you will be given a booklet entitled "New York Freshwater Fishing Regulations". The fisher is responsible for knowing the regulations in this booklet before you go fishing.
