As Illegal Migrant Crisis Continues to Build - Congressman Lawler Visits US-Mexico Border With Speaker Johnson

by M.C. Millman

Yesterday, Congressman Mike Lawler paid a visit along with House Speaker Mike Johnson and sixty GOP leaders to Eagle Pass, Texas's port of entry, where illegal migrants are processed at the border.

The group went to get a boots-on-the-ground view of what is happening at the United States-  Mexican border and to speak with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and Texas officials.

"It is the responsibility of Congress and the administration," said Congressman Mike Lawler. "And so far, this administration has refused to do anything about the border, and that's why we are dealing with this catastrophe."

While New York City has already begun budget cuts, starting at 5% across the board, and has more 5% cuts scheduled over the next few months, threatening police, fire, and EMS services while the city continues to pay for free housing, clothing, healthcare, and education for illegal immigrants, United States citizens are suffering.

"Our trip to Eagle Pass really drove home how critical the situation at our southern border really is," the Congressman shared on social media. "Unfortunately, House Republicans are the only ones who did anything on border security in 2023. That needs to change in 2024. We must get the border under control. It's not just the people but the drugs that are pouring in. 70,000 Americans died last year from fentanyl-related overdoses. That's unacceptable."

Eagle Pass processes 6,000 illegal migrants at one time in a facility that was built to process 1,000.

"If the Biden Administration spent as much time trying to secure the border as it does allowing illegal immigrants to come in," Lawler stated, "the border would already be secure. There were more than 300,000 border crossings last month - an all-time high. Since Biden took office, nearly 10 million immigrants have crossed the border, and 90 percent of them have been released. This is a crisis of our own making and a dereliction of duty on the part of Joe Biden. This is totally unsustainable. We must secure our border as soon as possible. The time for action has long since passed."
