Arrest Made After Second Swatting Incident at Suffern High School

M.C. Millman

The Ramapo Police Department announced an arrest of a juvenile swatter who called in a false report regarding the possibility of explosives at Suffern High School on the morning of Friday, September 22, one day after a swatter called in a bomb threat that shut the high school down for part of the morning.

Friday's caller reported by the Suffern High School to police warned of a chlorine gas leak/device on location, which resulted in a search of the building that day after a similar event as reported by Rockland Daily here.

Like the search on the previous day, the second search yielded no such leak or device.

Since the incident, the Ramapo PD Investigations Division and the school's School Resource Officer have been investigating the source of the second anonymous phone call leading to today's arrest of a juvenile for Falsely Reporting an Incident 1st Degree, a Class D Felony.

Due to the age of the suspect, the case will be heard in the Rockland County Family Court.

In regard to the bomb threat that was received on September 21, and reported by Rockland Daily here, the Ramapo Police Department is continuing its investigation into the source and circumstances of that notification while working closely with Federal law enforcement partners and has no further comments on the case at this time.
