Basic economy ticket holders on American Airlines will be charged $75 for every checked bag. 

The airline claims the fee, which will be charged for both domestic and international flights, will allow the terms of basic economy to be more consistent across its network.

Other airlines, such as Delta and United, will continue offering free first-checked bags for basic economy seats on domestic flights. Their policy to charge $75 for baggage on international flights matches American Airlines. 

In September of 2022, the Biden Administration announced plans to go after airlines for added fees. So far, there has been no formal change to restrict bag charges.
