Advocates for Immigrants in Orange County Jail Complain They Lack Sufficient Medical Attention

by Mindy Cohn
Advocates for the Orange County Correctional Facility's immigration population submitted a complaint to the Department of Homeland Security last week, claiming the jailed immigrants struggle to get medical attention even if they suffer from serious conditions.
The grievances are not unique to the Orange County Facility, as there have been other complaints about other New York jails where immigrants awaiting deportation proceedings are held.
Immigration advocates believe the solution is to immediately release immigrant detainees from the facilities. Additionally, they are demanding that Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigate the facility and end its detention contract with the facility.
