45 Voters Make All the Difference in Defeating ERCSD Budget

45 Voters Make All the Difference in Defeating ERCSD Budget

by M.C. Millman

The East Ramapo Central School District budget is the only budget voted down in Rockland County. All other school districts overwhelmingly passed their budgets, sending a message that many hope Albany will actually take note of.

While 1,851 ERCSD voters voted for the 1.9% budget increase, 1,896 voters said no.

Without an approved budget, the law allows the ERCSD to revise the budget and hold a new election which costs the taxpayers in the district between $150,000 to $250,000. The revised budget failed in  2018 when it was put up for a second vote. It also failed last year when there was a revote, which allowed for a lower property tax bill this year.

Sherry McGill was elected to the school board in Ward 3, Simon Koth was re-elected in Ward 5, and Moshe Samuel Feder was elected to the school board in Ward 8.
