1.7 Million Square Foot Project Takes Another Step Towards Approval by Town of Ramapo

1.7 Million Square Foot Project Takes Another Step Towards Approval by Town of Ramapo

by Rockland Daily Staff

A Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on the proposed development of a nearly 250-acre parcel of land located in the Town of Ramapo and in the Town of Tuxedo was accepted by the Town of Ramapo Town Board.

This is another step forward for a missionary organization, which purchased the land in 2009 for $11.5 million. The plans involve a ground-up facility for religious order members.

The planned facility, located at 155 Sterling Mine Road, will include accommodations for up to 1,240 resident staff, dining spaces, assembly spaces, and recreation/wellness/fitness facilities. Plans also include a visitors center, clinic, offices, maintenance and set production workshops, and a central chilled/hot water plant with a geothermal heat recovery system.

The project requires rezoning the current RSH Specialized Housing Residential to a new MU-3 Mixed-Use Zoning District and amendments to the Town of Ramapo Comprehensive Plan to move forward.
